Visa on arrival

Before you travel, check where the visa on arrival is available, which documents to bring and what the fees are.

Visa on arrival is available only at Bangalore (Bengaluru), Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai airports, for tourism, business, conference or medical visits of up to 60 days. Immigration may grant a double-entry visa on arrival valid for up to 60 days; it cannot be extended or converted. Fill in the visa-on-arrival application form and carry it with your disembarkation card. Your passport must be valid for at least six months, and you need a return or onward ticket and enough money for your stay. It is not available if you, a parent or a grandparent was born in or permanently lived in Pakistan. You can apply for an e-Tourist visa in advance instead.

Arrival forms & authorizations

Required under these conditions

e-Arrival Card

Submit the free India e-Arrival Card before you arrive. The Indian embassy notice asks travellers to submit it up to 72 hours before arrival. It is an arrival declaration, not a visa.

Air Suvidha 2.0 is a mandatory health self-declaration introduced for the Ebola outbreak. International travellers arriving by air must complete it online before immigration clearance, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (Press Information Bureau release, 25 June 2026).

Your visa or eVisa is a separate requirement. Use only the official government services.

Onward travel

Required under these conditions

The official eVisa eligibility guidance calls for a return or onward-journey ticket alongside sufficient money. This applies to the e-Tourist Visa. Other visa categories and the Nepal and Bhutan arrangements have their own conditions.

Travel insurance

Recommended

Travel insurance is recommended for ordinary tourist visits. Check the checklist for your visa and for the Indian mission you apply through, as it may set its own conditions.

Other information

These conditions are for a regular tourist visit. Where you live, your visa status and the route you take can change what applies to you.

  • For eVisa applications, the passport needs at least six months of validity and two blank pages. Carry onward-travel evidence and sufficient funds.
  • An approved eVisa must show GRANTED. Apply at least four days before travel; that lead time is not a guaranteed processing time. Use authorized airports or seaports; the eVisa route does not permit land entry.
  • Origin, family background, occupation and travel history can affect eligibility. OCI cardholders follow separate rules. Health requirements depend on your itinerary.
