Arrival forms & authorizations

Required under these conditions

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

MDAC is required for foreign visitors entering Malaysia by air, land or sea unless exempt. It is an arrival declaration, not a visa.

When to submit
within 3 days before arrival. The official form counts the day you submit as one of those 3 days, and accepts arrival dates from the day you submit up to two days later. You do not need to apply at least three days ahead.

Exempt categories: Singapore citizens; diplomatic or official passport holders; Malaysian permanent residents and long-term pass holders; Brunei GCI holders; Brunei–Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility holders; Thailand Border Pass holders; Indonesian cross-border PLB holders.

Living or working in Singapore alone does not exempt you. Border-document exemptions apply to those specific documents, not to all ordinary-passport holders from those countries. Autogate users still submit MDAC unless they are in an exempt category.

Use only the official Immigration Department site. Registering on the official MDAC site is free; sites that charge a fee are not the official one.

Onward travel

Required under these conditions

Carry a confirmed return ticket to your home country or an onward ticket to another country, together with sufficient funds for your visit. Special arrangements for residents or for certain routes have their own rules.

Travel insurance

Recommended

Travel insurance is recommended for ordinary tourism. Separate visa, long-stay, study or employment programmes may impose their own cover requirements.

Other information

These conditions are for a regular tourist visit. Where you live, your visa status and the route you take can change what applies to you.

  • Use a recognized passport valid for at least six months from entry. The official eVISA FAQ asks for at least three blank passport pages. Immigration's general entry rules don't state a page requirement for visa-free visitors.
  • If you travel on an eVISA, the official eVISA FAQ lists documents officers may check on arrival, including your eVISA, a confirmed return ticket where applicable, and proof of paid accommodation.
  • Your social visit pass determines the permitted stay. Visa validity is not the length of your visit. Extensions require special consideration.
  • Sabah and Sarawak have separate immigration controls. Even on a domestic trip, visitors leaving Sabah or Sarawak must show their passport, a valid pass and a boarding pass.
  • Yellow-fever certificate requirements depend on your itinerary, including airport transit exceeding 12 hours in a risk country. Check the Ministry of Health guidance for your route.
  • For arrivals from countries reporting mpox, health screening can apply. Advice to monitor your health for 21 days is not a blanket arrival-quarantine requirement.
