Arrival forms & authorizations

Recommended

Pre-Arrival Information (PAI)

Vietnam is rolling out an online Pre-Arrival Information (PAI) form for air arrivals. Submit it within the three days before arrival and show the QR code at immigration.

Vietnam's immigration authority describes it as a pilot, but some embassies say travellers are expected to complete it. Fill it in before you fly.

It is not a visa. Use only the official site and never pay a third-party site for it.

Onward travel

Recommended

Vietnam's entry law does not set a general onward-ticket rule for ordinary tourists. The Ministry of Public Security says visitors entering under Vietnam's unilateral visa exemption need only a passport valid for at least six months and must not be barred from entry.

Proof of onward or return travel is still recommended. Leave within the stay allowed by your visa exemption or eVisa.

Travel insurance

Recommended

Travel insurance is recommended for ordinary short tourist visits. A general compulsory requirement for all such visitors has not been confirmed. The eVisa application asks whether you have health insurance arranged for your stay; check the conditions for your visa or entry route.

Other information

These conditions are for a regular tourist visit. Where you live, your visa status and the route you take can change what applies to you.

  • Visitors entering under Vietnam's unilateral visa exemption need a passport valid for at least six months and can stay up to 45 days. Other visa-free arrangements depend on your nationality and set their own stay limits and conditions.
  • The Vietnam eVisa is valid for up to 90 days, for single or multiple entry. Your passport must stay valid for at least 30 days after your eVisa expires.
  • eVisa holders must enter and leave Vietnam through the international border gates designated by the Government. Check the official list of air, land and sea border gates on the eVisa portal before you choose your route.
  • Your accommodation must declare your stay to the local police, so you will need to show your passport at check-in.
